I thought I’d have a bit of a look around at other blogs which are written locally. It’s not something I’ve spent a lot of time doing in the past, which is a shame - I should probably broaden my blogging horizons far beyond the field of politics.
I registered for the BritBlog directory site quite a while ago but never really did anything beyond that. Today I’ve had another look as part of my quest to update the links to this site, and helpfully they list blogs by local area, so I’ve got my first list of Salford blogs.
Unfortunately the list is a bit disappointing. There are twelve blogs listed. Two of these are completely defunct and a further two do not appear to have been updated for some considerable time (including the Bus Rider blog - which is a shame as it seems to have had a great deal of potential). A fifth was started relatively recently but seems to have fizzled out after a handful of posts.
That leaves seven active blogs on the BritBlog Salford list. One of these is this very website - of which I am not an objective observer! - so that’s six down and six to go.
Of these, KiteTalk is a specialist blog on kiting and Harpies Crafty Corner is a very impressive craft showcase. A Little Garden In Walkden is exactly what it says on the tin, and a very pretty garden it looks too.
This leaves the last three blogs, which for me are a cut above the others:
Get Weird Turn Pro is a smartly laid out music blog which is updated regularly. I’ve never been a dance music fan so some of is a little beyond my comprehension, but I won’t hold it against them.
The Indie Credential is another music blog, but this one is much more up my street. It’s a well designed, well written site with a mixture of news, reviews and gigs and I’ll be checking in to read it every so often from now on.
The final site is a personal blog - It’s All Good. The author appears to be my political polar opposite, and unfortunately it isn’t updated all that often, but the entries are lengthy and in an engaging writing style.
I know there are other Salford blogs out there so I’m sure this won’t be my last post on the subject. If you’re reading this and have a Salford-based blog, or you know of others that do, leave a comment or drop me a line! Perhaps some sort of Salford blog portal could be a good idea…
