Salford’s Political Blogs

Having recovered from getting soaked by rain while playing tennis this afternoon - I didn’t even win the match - I thought I’d continue my leisurely stroll through the Salford blogosphere. Unfortunately it seems I can afford to be quite leisurely - if you Google search for “Salford blog” the top-ranking page is the post I made yesterday. Not too promising so far!

I thought I’d start with a topic I know reasonably well - politics.  Unfortunately in the interests of completeness this involves holding my nose a little bit and linking to the opposition! I will try - just this once - not to bring in too many value judgements.

There are two Salford City Councillors with active blogs. The first is, well, me - obviously. The second is Liberal Democrat Councillor Steve Cooke, who represents Swinton South. Steve tends to cover a more eclectic list of topics than I do, although he doesn’t update the site as frequently as I’m sure he’d like to do in an ideal world. My friend and colleague Shneur Odze also has a blog, as does Claremont Labour activist Peter Wheeler, although it is much more focused on his work as a Labour Party bigwig.

Both the Salford Conservatives and Salford Labour websites are powered by WordPress, but they are definitely blogs in the loosest sense. The Salford Liberal Democrats website used to use WordPress as well, but it seems to have gone AWOL - not sure why.

Beyond that there’s, well, not a great deal. The i-blog on the internet and politics is hosted at the University of Salford but has no real connection to the local area beyond that. David Ottewell of the Manchester Evening News occasionally comments on Salford politics as well as conurbation-wide issues that affect Salford - I suppose the same could be said for nearby political bloggers like Michelle Wiseman, Chris Paul and Rob Adlard.

If you know of any Salford-based blogs (political or otherwise) which I haven’t yet mentioned, do leave a comment on this post!
