Busy Few Days

The last few days have been quite busy - and that’s aside from the large (and ever increasing) stack of Christmas cards I’ve written recently!

On Wednesday afternoon I went to Mesne Lea Primary School, where I am Chair of Governors, to watch the reception nativity play. The staff and pupils had all worked exceptionally hard and it showed - the show was fantastic and I know everyone in the audience was very impressed. Well done!

I should have also had a Children’s Services Scrutiny Committee meeting, but it was inexplicably cancelled - see my previous post.

Later that afternoon I headed - along with Councillor Turner and officers from the neighbourhood team and planning - to Cafe Chino to meet with representatives from the Friends of Walkden Station and the Walkden Road Business & Community Association to discuss improvements to the street scene around the station and Walkden Road shops. I thought the meeting was exceptionally productive - a great advert for proper consultation with the local community - and I am sure that we will see the benefits early next year.

In the evening I attended a reception held at the One Stop Shop in honour of local residents who have made an outstanding contribution to the community - well done to everyone who was invited. Catering was provided by pupils from Harrop Fold School and they did a fantastic job - I took a particular fancy to the mini shepherd’s pies.

After that I headed on to the British Legion in Walkden to meet up with FOWS - fortunately this time an informal “meeting” over a pint from the bar!

On Thursday morning myself and Cllr Turner joined New Prospect officers and our local PCSOs for a walkabout on the Birch Road estate. We made a number of observations, including a request for a bit of a facelift for the shops on Rydal Crescent, and bumped into former Cllr Witkowski on the way around. He is looking much brighter, which is good.

Yesterday (Friday) I attended the New Prospect board meeting which went smoothly with no hiccups, and today I’ve been shopping in Manchester - including for another box of Christmas cards.
