Thanks to Chris Paul, I see that on the weekend you told us the contest was "going down to the wire" and that you previously speculated that this selection would mark the end of Hazel's Ministerial career...

I see the voting is reported as 174-79.

That's nowhere near any "wire" nor the end of Salford's Hazel.

Keep taking the tablets Iain...

Thanks for your comment Susan.

I am well aware of where my priorities lie, but I am sure that you will appreciate that I cannot and will not comment on individual pieces of casework on this website - that would be entirely inappropriate.

As for more substantive issues within Walkden, if you take a quick browse through my blog then you'll notice that over the last couple of weeks I've made comments about (in no particular order):

A number of issues concerning Walkden station (including a visit from a senior Westminster politician to Walkden)
The closure of St George's High School in my ward, and the BSF process
The recent walkabout I attended in the Athens Drive and associated issues of anti-social behaviour
The Council's budgetary situation (which could have a catastrophic impact on services in Walkden)
The closure of the local maternity unit at Hope Hospital
A number of comments about crime and anti-social behaviour

If you look on the Walkden Conservatives and Salford Conservatives websites you will find more local issues, many of which I have been involved with.

If posting comments to this website interfered with my responsibilities to the local residents in Walkden South and across Salford, I wouldn't be doing it. As it is, I think that the local community appreciates that both myself and my Conservative colleagues actually communicate to residents both the work that we do and local issues that they may be interested in.

Iain

You seem quite obsessed with going's on in the Labour party as opposed to going's on in your own ward - maybe you should be paying attention to what you've been given a Council salary (taxpayers money) to do.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear. Iain Lindley, you are speculating foolishly. Most members of most parties understand that an MP with a portfolio has to wear two hats. But in any case looking back to 1997 and comparing with the latest employment stats and so on it is very difficult to see what you Tories can be blaming Labour for when it comes to the lot of communities in Manchester and Salford.

I do wonder whether this will cause some friction amongst the Labour Party locally. I rather suspect that the result would have been much closer had active members voted, and that Hazel romped away with armchair members...

I agree with your view, its a shame the only time we see hazel is when there is a camera about. I meet ian and i found a pleasent type.
But to be honest would you honestly belive they would have the stomach to get rid of her?
