I don't know Ray, but he made a complete fool of himself on Channel M during his Cameron protest. If Cllr Harold is doing such a good job, why has he been deselected?

I don't see any prospect of the ruling group changing their mind on the timing of meetings. Nearly 30 of the 41 Labour Councillors receive additional allowances and so do not have to work as well. They have no interest in making the Council fairer and more accessible - it suits them just fine as it is. A real shame.

I'm sure Ray will become a very vocal councillor like yourself Ian.
And I believe that Cllr Harold will continue his good services in
Weaste.

With regard the timings of meetings I must agree with you, and will
look into this over the coming months.(I know many excellent people
who would make a great contribution to the local commuinities of
Salford alas Ian all Labour Members)

Funny you should mention that Andrew, I believe that Cllr Harold is actually the youngest current Labour Councillor, and he has been deselected (albeit in favour of someone younger).

The amount of new blood on Salford City Council will be limited as long as the Labour Group persist in using their majority to continue to hold Council meetings during the day rather than in the evenings.

Joe and Richard have concerns with regard poor turnout and voter
apathy.
Following Labours lead in Electing a youthfull Tony Blair way back
in the 90's

Conservatives and now Liberals have followed suit.

Everyone seems to be trying to engage the electorate and pull in the
younger voters.I think it is time to learn from the leaders of the parties and start to introduce some new young blood to the Salford Council chambers.

Can i come back on some of the comments you have raised. Bernard Carson and claremont are a little before my time. I asked some of the older members of there view to it. For what ever reason the hustings were held on a friday night and of course bernard living in broughton a lot of support he has came from the jewish quarter of our membership and being shabath there could not attend. If the comments i recived are correct bernards wife also arrived late. He lost the seat by one vote.Over the four years i have been with the party bernard as been offered what i belive seats we had hopes for and turned them down, And yes he continues to fight for broughton even to fighting against you last year . In my opinion silly but his choice. Unlike your own party you deselect Charlie Mck Im ordsall why i am unsure a grafter with guts open and honest,Hard to find in the politcal arena and now Tony? this shows how fickle your party are
You mention seedley i sat on that commitee and when i serve on it i hold no favours to any political party as well as my own, I listen without bias and vote sunject to the facts offered by officers and public provide. My fellow councillors put forward a brave case also the residents and they lost.No one turned they back on them i feel your comments unfair but on the second occasion they made mistakes. And i took the brave challange not to vote with them, I have always tried to be honest and open if we make mistakes we are human, i can only hope we learn from those mistakes and grow stronger. Your party could not go to print fast enough on your website you state you will use the call in on your leaflets i hope you do.In return I will highlight the mistakes i feel your party make and let the people of this city decide.

So it is ok for the lib dems to put up bernard carson in broughton but not for the labour party to put up tony harold in weaste. sorry Joe I thought we were talking about principles here not how clever you can be while campaigning. Its the same tactics that you employed when you demanded that we spent more money on seedley south and then having used them turned your back on them by attempting to block any money being spent there.

I agree wuth you. what are the root causes apathy? people sick of promises,i spent my life growing up in salford dad voted labour mum followed, same for my grand parents.labour for the working man tory for the rich. Times change but not the ability to change something that is feed to you every day. Someone said to me last year voting liberal Democrat is a wasted vote i belive we are different we have s range of policy that could work, I am sure ian will say the same. I am a realist but with firm convictions. And hope one day we can influence the future of our towns and cities. I hope under our new leadership we can gain some ground this year or i feel some sitting back and taking stock will need to happen. I look to the future with hope and a wish we can gain ground within salford from what ever area of the political spectrum ,With that in mind we may see the seeds of real democratic principal flourish within Salford, and people may take the chance to walk to the polling stations and use the power they have in there hands

Well your leaflet title is witty if harsh but 'politics is war' as I often say. I'm certainly in favour of fierce competition at election time and I wish all candidates a good campaign. The parties are never lacking in passion at election time but regrettably for many years the electorate has been half-asleep. Why oh why do turnouts remain consistently so low? What can be done to get more people to vote?
