More Ball Games Please

Back in October, Cllr Karen Garrido used her Advertiser column to highlight the initial report from the Childhood Review being conducted by David Willetts MP.

David Cameron MPDavid Cameron has now launched the second report from the review, entitled “more ball games”.

It has three key strands:

  1. Making outdoor space safer
  2. Dealing with bullying
  3. Increasing accessibility to sports and other activities within and outside school

You can read the full report here. It is well worth a read, and in marked contrast to our Labour Council which posts “trespassers will be prosecuted” signs on publicly-owned playing fields.

Tesco Express Application - Manchester Road

Tesco have applied for change-of-use planning permission to open a convenience store (a Tesco Express, I presume) on the site of the former garage at 148-150 Manchester Road in Walkden.

I know that these applications (rightly) generate a huge amount of debate on both sides of the argument, so it is very important that local residents have their say. The planning application reference is 08/55862/COU - anyone with an interest can view the details and submit their comments on the Council’s Public Access website.

I understand there is also a meeting for local residents later this week - please e-mail me on councillor.lindley@salford.gov.uk for details.

Back

Apologies for the lack of updates - I’ve been down in London for the weekend and only got back late on Sunday evening.

Normal service to be resumed later today!
