When the media is full of stories about apathy and lack of involvement, it is a real pleasure to see that the local community cares enough about an issue to stand up and do something about it. Everyone in Walkden and Little Hulton and indeed across Salford should stand up and applaud the four girls behind the Justice4George’s march which took place earlier today – what a terrific example they have set to their fellow pupils and local residents across the local area.
The march was a great success with around 2000 pupils, parents and residents showing their support. St George’s is an excellent school at the heart of the community and I am delighted that so many people from the local area sent a clear message to the Council that the school should remain open.

Amen! I was on the march for which I agree the turnout was 2000 . In addition to the actual purpose of the march – important as that is – what really thrilled me was to ‘experience community’ in such a vivid and powerful way. We often bemoan the ‘death of community’ but on yesterday’s march the many who were present had the privilege of experiencing what community really is.
Yesterday the people of Salford spoke out loud and clear and sent an overwhelming and unequivocal message to Merry, Warmisham and cronies: KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF ST. GEORGE’S!!!
I can feel the hairs standing on my neck,a tightening in my stomach and a feeling that my dear father is spinning in his grave. Have you guessed I am not a conservative ? I have followed the St. George’s High School debacle since September 2006 when the Salford Advertiser broke the news of the incomprehensible and immoral plans of the Council to close a successful, popular school. I am proud to say that I agree entirely with Ian Lindley’s statement on his website regarding these wonderful people known as justice4georges. I feel that these modest 16 year old girls are genuinely today’s Nelson Mandelas/ Lech Walensas/ Mahatma Ghandis. Demonstrating their passion for what is right. They are mature beyond their years and put John Merry and his intransigent, sycophantic, acolytes to shame.
Father please stop spinning…………….vote them out and shout What do we want ‘justice’ who for ‘georges’ when do we want it ‘now’
