…and another rule for everybody else.
Our Council Leader thinks that the individual Police Officers should be kept out of party political literature in case they are “compromised”, but sadly it appears that the message hasn’t got through to his own Councillors yet:

This newsletter was put out well before the election was called. My understanding was during the first two months of this year. Really Ian you will have to do better than that!
So let me get this straight - it’s alright to use local police officers in political propaganda, as long as you do it just before the notice of election!
(March I believe, incidentally)
As I’m sure you will appreciate GMP should not be seen to support or endorse any political party or individual.
part of a letter i recived no dates or timings stated….
one rule for one. Again its election time lets all shout foul in the LABOUR camp
joe
That’s a howler John! You’re saying it’s okay because it was timed just before the electioneering period! The above leaflet is a flagrant, shameless piece of Labour propaganda which clearly exploits the police for political advantage.
well tonight i recived a letter telling me i must not put any reference to gmpa in my leaflets.
funny i never felt i lived in russia.
The latest article on Steve Cooke’s blog about this issue is worth a look.
Unfortunately this has happened in Tameside with council staff and mainly Tameside Patrollers (crap town wardens) taking a nice photoshoot with Labour councillors and candidates.
I have a blog post related to this going up soon.
