Spot The Difference: Crewe & Nantwich Edition

I wrote on Sunday night about the disgusting content of Labour’s election literature in the Crewe & Nantwich by-election. Labour have made a big issue of Conservative candidate Edward Timpson’s house, and even took a paparazzi-style photo of it to feature in their election literature. I thought I’d do a little more digging and here are two images for your information:

On the left is Edward Timpson’s nice house in the country, which Labour have worked themselves into a spin about. On the right, meanwhile, is Labour candidate Tamsin Dunwoody’s modest two-bedroom end terrace… oh wait, sorry, it’s a nice house in the country too. What contemptible hypocrisy from the Labour campaign.

Of course, there is one difference between the two. Edward Timpson’s house is in Cheshire, a few miles from Crewe & Nantwich. Tamsin Dunwoody’s house is in South-West Wales. “One of us”?

You can see the Labour candidate’s home (very nice) on a satellite map here: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=SA62+5dr&ie=UTF8&ll=51.900521,-4.916725&spn=0.001089,0.003648&t=h&z=18

Good spot Steve. It does look very pleasant.

So just out of interest how about the Lib Dem candidate? [if it's acceptable to pose a question to Steve Cooke on Councillor Lindley's blog!]

I’m not bothered about the LibDem candidate. It’s a two-horse race – only Cheshire man Edward Timpson can beat Gordon Brown’s Labour candidate from Pembrokeshire! :)

Given our by-election record I think it very unwise to completely write off the Lib Dems. More about Elizabeth our candidate can be found here: http://www.elizabethshenton.com/

I can exclusively reveal that Elizabeth does not live in a palatial mansion and is the most local of the candidates.

Can you imagine the Liberal Democrat bar charts if Labour or the Conservatives found themselves in the position that the LibDem candidate is in Crewe? A poor third in the polling, a poor third at the last General Election, and a poor third in the local elections held only two weeks ago.

Yes – I certainly can. We all of us do our best to squeeze the third party vote till the pips squeak – just as those of us in that situation do our best to avoid it! We also know that the Lib Dems should never be underestimated in a bye-election.

Ian just to keep you on your toes on my latest leaflet I have dispensed with bar charts and embraced the wonder of pie charts. Never let it be said the Lib Dems are not a modernising party.

I nearly used a pie chart in one Salford ward this year, but decided against it. I know the Manchester Conservatives are big fans of pie charts. :)

Meanwhile, ET’s house is worth some five times TD’s and just to underline the she’s one of us line GD lost her house in a repossession.

ET is worth £50M plus I believe.

Only time will tell whether parts of the LP campaign are disgraceful and worked or disgraceful and failed. But as I blogged yesterday the fuss from Tories about the Toff stuff is way way OTT.

Paradoxically the more Tory fuss the more likely it is to work IMO.

PS One: The Tory bar chart on ET’s site follows LD principles.

PS Two: Do the O’Neill’s now run the Salford Lib Dem franchise?

    No – see latest post.
