Normally you wouldn’t expect the Manchester Evening News to splash big stories across their Saturday edition, but today there are two very big stories for local residents in Salford:
- City Gets The Green Light - on potential approval for the TIF bid
- More Post Offices Axed -on Tuesday’s Government Post Office Closure announcement
I’ll be commenting in more detail on both stories later today tomorrow.

Todays headline over the congestion charge didnt make appetising reading for myself. For me as a councillor this issue goes beyond party whips, an issue like this goes down to personal convictions and whether it is what the residents who elected us want and not what the leaders of AGMA believe is best for them.
During the election it was made inherently clear to me that the residents in my ward want better public transport but did not want to be ransomed over it with the imposition of this tax.
AGMA’s perverse use of democracy is changing its voting rules was a key symbol of how useless the months of planned consultation will be.
It will be a toothless excercise because if the leaders of the various councils were intent on listening to the people then they would give them a referendum.
Cllr Martin O’Neill
Iain,
And just what are you implying about our typical Saturday edition, eh?
D
Nothing personal, David, just that as a general rule (for all newspapers, not just yours) Saturday tends to be the slowest news day. I rarely buy a national newspaper on a Saturday.
I would also expect, given the way in which your City edition is distributed, that the Saturday edition has the lowest circulation - although I’m happy to stand corrected if that is not the case!
Iain,
No comment!
(It was a hell of a Saturday paper this week, though…)
