Still Glued To The Olympics

I’m still glued to the Olympics, with the added bonus that the British athletes are doing fantastically well. The cycling results in particular have been sensational and it’s great to know what a huge part the world-class facilities at the Manchester Velodrome has played in that success.

I do have one concern though - now that Gordon “Jonah” Brown has waded into the action I hope that there isn’t a sudden reversal of fortune!

Tis a shame London has decided they need their own Velodrome for 2012, yet more money thrown away when there’s a perfectly good facility (in fact one of the best in the world) up here…

Sadly I doubt the IOC would ever have approved a bid with the events spread out so far, other than ones such as sailing where a distant venue is a physical necessity.

I don’t think it’s a bad thing for British sport that we’ll have another world-class cycling facility in the country.

As long as sport in the North West remains fully funded, the only thing that would have made watching the Olympics this weekend better would have been seeing Salfordians on the medal podium. Here’s hoping for 2012.
