Joe, that is a quote from our budget statement from the Spring. It does not call for an increase in Council Tax - as you'll be aware we have consistently called for a lower tax burden.

Cllr MacDonald's point was that if Labour are happy to continue with the same levels of waste and excess and believe that the public are happy with that profligacy, then the right thing to do would be to increase Council Tax rather than raid the reserves.

The Conservative position was, is, and will continue to be that we want to see greater efficiency, cuts in Labour's waste and an end to overstaffing - if Labour had listened to us, we would now have value-for-money, considerably lower Council Tax and reserves worthy of the name. In short, we wouldn't be in this fine mess than Labour have gotten us into!

Iian i am glad you have had the courage to offer you groups view on putting up the tax on the people of this city. By doing so i think you are playing directly into the hands of Cllrs Merry and Hinds. We do not belive in the Tax and could not except such a drastic increase on the people of this city. I hope to put our response to this shambles later for norman so i feel it would not be exceptable to go into full detail.I was disspointed Kareens comments were not more detailed on the scrutiny meeting, there were more details which could have been put before the press to highlight this shambles. The credit chrunch come on John if you managed the fiscal policies in this council we would be in shape to ride it out.
