How Should We Help New Mothers?

On the Council, I’m part of a scrutiny committee sub-group looking at the help we can give to parents, especially those most in need. There’s an awful lot to look at in this area and we’re looking to compile an interim report on our findings in the next couple of months.

By coincidence, the Shadow Minister for the Family Maria Miller MP is also looking at the support that the Government can give to parents, and in particular to new mothers. Maria has asked mumsnet.com to host a survey about support in the first few days following pregnancy, which you can find here. This is a really important area of policy which can have a profound impact on how children grow up, and I know Maria and her colleagues would greatly appreciated the input of parents on this issue.

No Such Thing As A Free… Car Park

I noticed this sign (pictured left) when I got off the bus at the top of Worsley Road in Swinton this morning.

There really isn’t much excuse for having out of date or misleading signs up on the road, and doubtless the same sign raises the blood pressure of the Swinton Councillors who are frequent visitors to this blog!

(Apologies for the poor quality image, I was in a rush and the sun was shining in all the wrong places to take a decent photo…)
