I wrote a couple of weeks ago about the Council’s core strategy consultion. This document will shape where new residential developments will be built in Salford over the next twenty years, and some of the options will have a drastic impact on local residents in Walkden and the rest of West Salford.
The most radical option would open up green belt and greenfield land for new development – including Burgess Farm in Walkden (off Hilton Lane), Hazelhurst Fold in Worsley and parts of Barton Moss.
The Council have organised a series of drop-in events for local residents to ask questions and give their views. You can find a list of these on the Council website but there are two in the Walkden area which I will draw the attention of local residents in Walkden South to:
Walkden Library - 9.30am-4.30pm on Monday 3rd November (yes, that’s this coming Monday)
Fit City Worsley - 4-6pm on Wednesday 19th November

On a day when calls were made to pardon those executed for witchcraft and an SAS Commander has resigned over kit shortages it is perhaps more than a coincidence that I’ve spent the evening in Pendle listening to the Shadow Secretary of State for Defence!
Dr Liam Fox MP was the guest speaker at a dinner organised by Pendle Conservatives. Dr Fox shows great passion for the welfare of our service personnel and a deep commitment to ensuring that the right resources, support and equipment reach those on active duty – something that today’s news shows is still desperately needed.
I thoroughly enjoyed the evening – it was great to see many familiar faces and to help Andy Stephenson take another step towards becoming the Conservative MP for Pendle. I also managed to snatch a quick photo with the special guest auctioneer, a face I’m sure many of you will recognise…
