The Political Colours Of Salford

Over at Vote UK various contributors do a very nice line in coloured maps showing the political make-up of a particular area. I thought I’d have a bash for Salford – just for fun – and these are the results. The first map is the wards of Salford according to who won them at the local elections in 2008, and the second map adds in some pastel shades to give a vague indication of marginality (lighter shade = more marginal). The colours should be fairly clear, but just in case of any confusion; red for Labour, blue for Conservative, yellow for Liberal Democrat and green for Community Action. These are just for fun, and I’m sure I’m not the only person reading this blog who takes an interest in these sort of maps, so enjoy.

Don’t Forget To Vote!

The deadline for voting in the Congestion Charge Referendum is tomorrow (Thursday) at 10pm. If you haven’t yet voted, you can either post your ballot today and hope that the Royal Mail has an efficient day, or alternatively you can hand in your ballot tomorrow between 7am and 10pm at one of the libraries in Walkden, Irlam, Eccles, Broadwalk and Broughton.

I’ve already voted (no, of course) but if I still had hold of my ballot paper I would probably hand it in tomorrow which removes the risk of it not getting there on time.

I wonder how many ballots will be ruled out of order for arriving after the deadline? Quite a few I suspect, and the high level of mail at this time of the year will only make things worse.
