Labour plough on with misguided busway – and your Council Tax will rise to pay for it!

Depressing news from the AGMA meeting – the white elephant Leigh Misguided Busway stays on the list of priority improvements, despite being of absolutely no use to anyone.

I am completely opposed to the busway which will cause a huge increase in congestion on the A580 East Lancashire Road without actually providing any improvements in our bus services, which will speed down the East Lancs bypassing the communities it is supposed to serve.

What a bonkers idea – and now we are being told that we’ll have to fork out extra Council Tax for it as well.

Yet another Labour “grand plan” just like Stalin used to have, another way of wasting our money just to be seen to be doing something. If this is going to be such a popular route where’s First’s ‘express’ service along the route already? Why isn’t the East Lanc filled with buses? (I’ve never seen one). Instead, hows about reinstating the 3rd platform at Eccles to increase the frequency of the trains AND reduce congestion at Victoria, then adding wheelchair access and ome electronic displays for the train times? Is that not grand enough or just too much common sense/good value for money? Why scrap the metrolink extension to Trafford Park/The Trafford centre, a chance to remove 100′s of cars from the road (weren’t we heading towards total gridlock?) or is the reason it’s been scrapped is simply to punish Peel holdings (owners of the Trafford Centre) for campaigning against the Con Charge? If there is going to be a “grand plan” hows about proper trams via Salford Central, Chapel St, The Crescent to Salford Precinct (operating along the exiting bus lanes). Then maybe off to Swinton/Walkden?

    Excellent comments Peter.

But don’t forget the Conservatives will not help you on transport!

They voted against the Congestion charge and their only commitment
to Manchester is a High speed rail link to London(in 15yrs time)!!

The Consrvatives deregulated the buses they privatised British Rail.
