We’re all set for a great summer of sport. Wimbledon was a fantastic spectacle (even if Andy Murray did fall at the second-to-last hurdle) and tomorrow all eyes are on Cardiff for the first Ashes test. Here’s hoping for a great series!
It is of course very sad that Old Trafford is not on the Ashes schedule. The atmosphere for a Manchester test match is fantastic and of course the benefits to the wider region of hosting Test Match cricket are huge. I hope that the ground redevelopment – now well underway – brings Test cricket back to Manchester sooner rather than later.

Sometimes Parliament Doesn’t Help Itself…
I’m baffled by the decision of the Commons authorities to stop Cub Scouts from lobbying their MPs and I hope the that new Speaker steps in quickly to allow the meeting to go ahead.
The Cub Scouts should be congratulated for getting involved in the democratic process and the decision to bar them is absolutely absurd.
