Last year I spent a weekend in Glasgow campaigning for our excellent by-election candidate in Glasgow East, Davena Rankin. Following the decision of the previous Speaker, Michael Martin, to step down, there’s another upcoming poll in Glasgow, this time in Glasgow North East constituency.
There’s no date as yet for the by-election – mainly because the Labour Party are running scared and refused to call it – but the Scottish Conservatives have selected a brilliant candidate in Ruth Davidson. She has an excellent website up-and-running and I’ve enjoyed browsing it for a few minutes.
Glasgow North East is, of course, not what you’d consider a typically Conservative area, but like many places the people there have been badly let down and taken for granted by Labour. I know that Ruth would be a superb MP for Glasgow North East and the hard work that she is putting in already is testament to the fact that there are no no-go areas for the modern Conservative Party. I wish her every success.
