St George’s Adjudicator In Walkden This Week

My view on the future of St George’s RC High School in Walkden has not changed since the Building Schools for the Future saga began – St George’s is an excellent school at the heart of the local community, and there is no reasonable justification for Labour’s decision to close the school down.

This week is an important week for St George’s, as the schools adjudicator Canon Richard Lindley (no relation) is visiting on Thursday to talk to the Council as well as parents, staff and local people. There are two meetings for parents on Thursday evening and it will be a great opportunity to go along and listen to what local people have to say about the future of their school.

St George’s continues to have my full support and the support of the Conservative opposition on Salford City Council. It is a good, oversubscribed school with a balanced budget – you simply shouldn’t shut down good schools.

I hope that the adjudicator will side with the school. We are now almost in the last-chance saloon – if the adjudicator sides with the Council, then the only way to save St George’s will be to kick the ruling Labour group out at the elections in May next year.
