I am sad to hear that Cllr Vincent Devine (Labour, Walkden North) is still poorly in hospital. My best wishes to Vincent and his family, friends and colleagues.
Many thanks to those local residents who braved the poor weather and came out to talk to myself and the City West housing officers on our walkabout on the Birch Road estate this morning.
I was particularly concerned to hear about the flooding problems at the lowest point of Ash Grove. This seems to be caused by poor gulleys and drainage and I have asked Urban Vision to investigate this as a matter of urgency.
Many of you will have already read about this morning’s horrific blast on the Moss Vale estate in Irlam.
My thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this morning’s explosion, particularly those who were injured and their relatives and friends. I hope for good news for those who have been taken to hospital.
I’m very grateful for the extraordinary skill and professionalism of our Greater Manchester fire crews and Urban Search & Rescue team, and for that of our colleagues from Lancashire Fire Service. The Police and Ambulance Service have also shown great dedication, and the people of Irlam have shown true community spirit in response to a horrifying situation.
There needs to be a full investigation into how this has happened so that we can learn the lessons of this very serious incident.
