Labour Vote For A580 Traffic Chaos

I am extremely disappointed that Labour Councillors on the Planning Panel today voted to ignore the concerns of local residents and chose to proceed with plans to close off a lane of the A580 East Lancashire Road in the Walkden area to accomodate the Leigh Misguided Busway.

This is going to make the traffic – which is already bad enough – even worse, adding to the chaos that has already been created in the Chapel Street area. I am extremely worried about lanes of backed-up traffic on Newearth Road, Walkden Road and Old Clough Lane, and the prospect of more cars rat-running through residential streets like Broadway and Birch Road.

I am very grateful to the Conservative Councillors on the Panel for voting against the plans, but sadly – as usual – Labour simply did not listen to residents.
