Last week, the Council indicated that they wish to sell the land previously occupied by the old Walkden High School buildings. As a former Walkden High pupil, it’s a plot of land with a great deal of significance to me as well as many local residents who have grown up in the local area. The land under discussion is the “footprint” of the old buildings – the playing fields at the back of the site, currently with rugby posts present, will not be affected and will remain as fields.
The ward Councillors have been asked for their views on the proposed sale, and both myself and Councillor Turner feel that is is important that we listen to what local people who live around the site think. We’ve got until 24th August to respond, so if you have any views, please let us know. You can comment on this article, you can e-mail me on firstname.lastname@example.org or Les on email@example.com, or you can leave a comment on my Facebook page.
In particular, I’d like to know the following:
- Do you think that the Council is right to sell the site?
- If so, what sort of uses do you think would be acceptable should the site be developed?
- Are there any potential uses to which you feel would be particularly unsuitable?
Les and I look forward to hearing your views.
