New planning application for Holyoake Road

A revised application has been submitted for the vacant land off Holyoake Road, adjacent to Walkden railway station. The planning reference is 16/68126/FUL.

This site already has planning permission for 87 family homes but the land appears to have been acquired by Countryside Properties and their new application is for 123 apartments and houses.

Although I don’t object to the principle of building on this site, I have a number of¬†concerns about this revised application and will be making a strong objection on behalf of residents. I’m particularly worried about the proposals for new apartments which would have a significant negative impact on nearby homes. Countryside do not have a good track record on building aesthetically pleasing apartment blocks – their new build on the old Klyne & Klyne site is truly appalling.

I’m keen to hear the views of neighbouring residents – drop me a line on

Square, ugly blocks of flats now hinder the views at the top of old clough lane. Can it be possible to build properties with some character a least in a over populated Walkden. Also gutted to see that bit of green belt on the East Lancs thats being developed on near to the Cock Hotel.
