I was shocked and saddened to learn this morning of the death of Ivan Cameron. My heartfelt sympathy and condolences go out to David and Samantha Cameron and their family and friends. I can’t even begin to imagine how it must feel to lose a child and my thoughts are with them today.
Greetings from a snow-covered Walkden! We seem to have had the optimum amount of snow today – that is, enough to create a nice picturesque wintry atmosphere but not enough to grind the entire world to a halt.
Anyway I’m off out to see in the New Year with friends shortly, so I thought I’d make a quick post here to wish everyone all the best for New Year, and here’s to a successful and happy 2009!
Simon Renwick is a fellow Conservative Councillor and blogger. He represents Medlar-with-Wesham on Fylde Borough Council and is the prospective Conservative candidate for the Fylde Rural East division on Lancashire County Council.
Simon has recently set up a new “guest blogger” section of his website and has asked me to write a short piece. My guidelines are as follows:
Whatever you want as long as it isn’t rude, offensive or contains swear words
Very strict as you can see! So, dear readers, any suggestions?
I spent yesterday in York having a marvellous time at the University of York Conservative Christmas Dinner and unsurprisingly did not have time to blog. I must thank all the UYCUA Committee for putting on another excellent event – they never disappoint!
Anyway, a day late, here’s my regular Sunday round-up of ten blog posts which caught my eye this week…
- David Ottewell trawls through some of the TIF referendum detail.
- Mike Smithson gets a tip wrong – now there’s a novelty!
- Iain Dale muses about a February General Election – will Gordon cut and run?
- Labour PPC Lucy Powell thinks the people of Greater Manchester are stupid. She really does have a talent for major gaffes – anyone else remember her slagging off Bentley during the Crewe & Nantwich campaign.
- Cllr Susan Williams welcomes the Congestion Charge “No” vote.
- David Nuttall shares his thoughts on the TIF referendum.
- Cllr Antony Little debates the pros and cons of campaigning in midwinter!
- FOWS flag up the new timetable. Having tried to get home from Manchester this evening all I can say is that there are one or two teething troubles!
- Mary Macleod comments on an interesting parks initiative in London.
- Ian Lewis notes the lack of consultation from Labour-led Wirral Council. It seems they have taken a leaf out of Salford Labour’s book!
Ten things which caught my eye this week:
The usual ten blog posts which have caught my eye this week:
I’ve just come back from a brisk walk down to Worsley Village where the Community Association were holding their annual Christmas lights switch-on. It was a great event and a large crowd turned out to join in with the fun. WVCA certainly make the most of their location and Father Christmas arrived by illuminated canal boat which was a fantastic spectacle, especially for all the children present.
Well done to all those involved with the event – I am particularly grateful for the mulled wine which kept me warm on what is a very chilly evening!
Ten blog posts that caught my eye this week, for your reading pleasure:
- The Friends of Walkden Station report on encouraging passenger growth at Walkden. I might add that I was one of the 511 passengers they counted.
- David Ottewell has fun with PhotoShop with amusing results.
- Tim Montgomerie at ConservativeHome outlines ten reasons for the Conservatives to feel optimistic.
- Will Palmer weighs in to the Congestion Charge debate at the new UMCF blog.
- Paul Linford thinks that bloggers should be allowed into the Parliamentary lobby. Hat tip to Mike Smithson for pointing this article out.
- Fraser Nelson contemplates “Reykjavik on Thames”.
- Tim Roll-Pickering welcomes the agreement between the Conservative Party and the Ulster Unionist Party.
- Phil Taylor discusses the difference between recreation and destination shopping centres.
- Jake Berry is concerned about major brands pulling out of Rossendale’s key retail redevelopment.
- Finally, Ellee Seymour recalls her experience of looking out for pirates!
That’s all for this week folks! Feel free to suggest articles for future editions of the Sunday round-up.
Here’s the usual Sunday round-up of blog posts that have caught my eye this week, in no particular order as usual. I’ve also just noticed I’ve managed to update every day this week, which I always aspire to but don’t always manage!
